In Buddhism practised in Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan, the singing bowl is considered feminine in a female/male duality, similar to the Bell in relation to the Dorje. The addition of a lingam or male aspect in the centre of the singing bowl, balances the duality and also adds a unique depth to the sound quality. These bowls are easy to play and have a rich variety of overtones.
